Ba Don Market, also known as Don Market, is one of the oldest markets in Quang Binh, closely associated with the history of this land since the Later Le Dynasty. The name "Ba Don" originates from three military posts (don) established by Lord Trinh to manage and protect the region: Trung Thuan (Trung Ai) post, Phan Long (Quang Luu) post, and Xuan Kieu post. Initially, the market was just a simple gathering point under a large ancient tree in Phan Long village, where soldiers and locals met to exchange goods, socialize, and entertain. Over time, the market gradually became a vibrant trading center connecting neighboring villages.

Through the ups and downs of history, from war periods to the renovation era, Ba Don Market has been rebuilt more spacious and sturdy, especially during the French colonial period with five large halls, Hong Ky tile roofs, and paved cement floors. Despite the impacts of time and the development of modern commercial centers, the market still retains its unique traditional character, becoming an irreplaceable cultural symbol for the people of Quang Binh.
Folk verses once passed down from generation to generation:
“Ba Don gathers six times a month / Periodic market connecting buyers and sellers near and far”
This folk verse not only reflects the bustle of the market days but also emphasizes the role of Ba Don Market in the economic and cultural life of local people.
