Sa Mu Pass (also known as Sa Mu Peak) is located on the majestic Truong Son Mountain Range, the intersection between the East and West Truong Son climate regions. The name "Sa Mu" comes from the characteristic thick fog that covers it year-round, creating a magical landscape like a fairyland. The pass is about 19.8 km long with winding hairpin turns, a sheer cliff on one side and a deep valley on the other. The high altitude causes this area to be frequently submerged in fog, especially in the early morning. When the clouds clear, you will be able to admire the rolling Truong Son range, lush primeval forests, and sometimes colorful flower gardens of orchids, daisies, and wild sunflowers – the reason why many people compare Sa Mu to a "mini Da Lat" of Quang Tri.
Not only beautiful in landscape, Sa Mu Pass is also associated with the nation's heroic history via the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This is an ideal destination for those who love wildness, peace, and want to explore the natural beauty of the border mountains.
