The collection process spanned nearly 40 years, starting with ancient pottery retrieved from the riverbed of the Huong River. The collection was also enriched by precious artifacts from the late researcher Ho Tan Phan, creating a solid foundation for the museum.

The name "Lan Vien Co Tich" carries a poetic meaning, recalling childhood memories and the heritage of the Thai family clan. The museum was officially licensed on December 9, 2021, under Decision No. 3217/QD-UBND of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, and opened to visitors on April 17, 2022. This is the third private museum in Hue, after the Museum of Bleus de Hue Pottery of the Nguyen Dynasty (2012) and XQ Embroidery Museum (2016). A special feature is that Lan Vien Co Tich is the only museum in Vietnam focused on ancient pottery excavated from the Huong River, reflecting cultural exchanges over millennia.

• Cham and Sa Huynh Ceramics (5th century BCE): Made of unglazed coarse terracotta with simple shapes such as jars and pots, showing interactions between local residents and Cham culture.
• Early Le and Restored Le Dynasty Ceramics (17th-18th century): Produced in Phuoc Tich and My Xuyen villages, featuring white or blue glazes used for daily life items like bowls, cups, and lime pots.
• Ly-Tran and Nguyen Dynasty Ceramics (from 1st millennium CE to 19th-20th century): Complex polychrome glazes, influenced by international trade.
