Son Doong Cave Map Quang Binh

Son Doong Cave is located in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, near the Vietnam - Laos border. The exact coordinates are 17°27’25.88″ N, 106°17’15.36″ E. Research shows the cave is over 9 km long, with a volume of 38.5 million m³, reaching heights of up to 200 m and widths up to 150 m at certain passages.

The journey begins from Dong Hoi, located about 50 km northwest of the cave. Travelers pass through Ban Doong, a small village of the Bru - Van Kieu ethnic group, before entering the cave area. Below are the main milestones:

• Dong Hoi → Ban Doong: Around 45 km, drive to the West Branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway, then trek 12 km through the jungle.
• Ban Doong → Hang En: A 10 km trek across streams and mountains, where travelers rest at Hang En before entering Son Doong.
• Hang En → Son Doong Cave: Explore deep into Hang En and follow the rear exit to reach Son Doong Cave.

Note: Detailed maps of the interior of Son Doong Cave are not publicly released to protect the heritage site. However, visitors will be provided with a basic route map upon registering for the tour. 

Son Doong Cave was first discovered in 1991 by Mr. Ho Khanh. In 2013, Guinness World Records officially recognized Son Doong as the largest natural cave in the world. This cave stands out with many unique and outstanding features:

• Record size: Over 6 km long, 150 m high, and 200 m wide, large enough to fit a 40-story skyscraper.
• Distinct ecosystem: The "Garden of Edam" with nearly 400 plant species, along with newly discovered animal species such as millipedes and crustaceans.
• Gigantic stalagmites: Featuring stalagmite columns up to 70 m high and tens-of-thousands-of-years-old "cave pearls".
• Underground river and sinkholes: A 2.5 km long underground river and two skylights/dolines that form clouds and a microclimate.
• Independent microclimate: Cool temperatures (20-25°C) and high humidity, especially from January to March.

Son Doong Cave is recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site (2003) and holds a record title by Guinness World Records.

Some prominent areas inside the cave include:

• Cave entrance: Located after Hang En, access requires rappelling down a steep cliff using ropes, leading to the Rao Thuong underground river section.
• First major chamber: Followed by Doline 1, where the cave ceiling collapsed to allow light in, creating the "Watch Out for Dinosaurs" area with a lush jungle. 
• Second major chamber: Home to giant stalagmites and "cave pearls".
• Underground river: Flows through chambers, generating moisture and a mystical landscape.
• Dolines (Sinkholes): Two collapsed ceiling areas allowing sunlight to enter and form unique natural ecosystems.
• End of the cave: Finally, the Great Wall of Vietnam, a 90 m high calcite wall marking the end point of the tour.
