Detailed itinerary

  • 06:00 AM – Depart from Hue

    The car and tour guide pick up guests in the center of Hue City. Travel along National Highway 1A, beginning the journey to the DMZ – the demilitarized zone that once divided the country for over 20 years.

  • 07:00 AM – Visit La Vang Holy Land

    Stop at La Vang – a major pilgrimage center for Vietnamese Catholics, where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared in the late 18th century during the fierce religious persecution under Emperor Canh Thinh (Tay Son Dynasty).

  • 07:30 AM – Transfer to Quang Tri Ancient Citadel

    The Ancient Citadel is a military fortress built during the reign of Emperor Gia Long (1809), playing a strategic role in many historical periods.

  • 07:40 AM – Visit Quang Tri Ancient Citadel

    This is where the 81-day and night battle took place in the summer of 1972 between the Southern Liberation Army and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. This fierce battle aimed to reclaim Quang Tri town.

    This area is now a memorial cemetery, a burial site for thousands of unknown martyrs, symbolizing the enormous sacrifice and loss during the war.

  • 08:40 AM – Transfer to Hien Luong Bridge – Ben Hai River

    National Highway 1 northbound, to the area of the 17th Parallel.

  • 09:40 AM – Visit Hien Luong Bridge – Ben Hai River

    This area once served as the demarcation line dividing North and South Vietnam according to the 1954 Geneva Accords.

    • Hien Luong Bridge witnessed various forms of psychological warfare, such as loudspeaker duels, competitions to paint flagpole taller, or paint the bridge brighter, etc., between the two sides.
    • Visitors will hear explanations about the symbols of division, such as: the white demarcation line, the flagpoles of the two regions, and the exhibition area of war artifacts.
  • 10:00 AM – Transfer to Phong Nha via Ho Chi Minh Road West Branch

    Along the way, the tour guide will explain about the Truong Son Trail – the lifeline for transporting food and weapons from North to South throughout the anti-American resistance war. 

  • 12:30 PM – Have lunch at a local restaurant (Phong Nha)

    Rest and prepare for the cave visit.

  • 01:30 PM – Visit Phong Nha Cave

    Phong Nha Cave is a UNESCO-recognized World Natural Heritage site, notable for:

    • The longest underground river in Southeast Asia
    • A diverse system of stalactites, formed tens of millions of years ago
    • A place once used by the Liberation Army as a shelter and storage for military supplies during the resistance war

    Visitors will take a motorboat on the Son River, going about 1.5km deep inside the cave, listening to detailed introductions about its geology, formation history, and military significance during wartime.

  • 04:00 PM – End of Tour

    Vehicle drops off guests at:

    • Dong Hoi (city center, train station, airport)
    • Phong Nha (if staying here)
    • Or return to Hue as requested
