Quang Nam sesame cake did not appear by chance, but is the result of preserving and developing traditional folk cuisine since the early 19th century under the Nguyen Dynasty. According to historical records, the craft of making these cakes originated in Cam Le village (now in Cam Le district, Da Nang city), where locals skillfully utilized available ingredients like glutinous rice, sugar, sesame, and ginger to create cakes served during festivals and the Lunar New Year.
By 1945, the cake-making craft was passed down through generations in local families, and in 1967, the Ba Lieu Sesame Cake brand was officially established in the Quang Da region. The founder – Mrs. Lieu, transformed this rustic cake from a family-scale treat into a famous specialty across Central Vietnam, keeping the handcrafted production process and secret family recipe intact.

Today, Ba Lieu sesame cake is not only a traditional cake on ancestor worship trays, but also considered a cultural symbol of the Quang region. Each cake carries a humble, rustic flavor, while embodying the resilient work ethic and love for the homeland of the people of Quang Nam – Da Nang.
