1. A land of diverse natural nuances

The name Survival Valley was given by Mr. Cao Xuan Chinh, former Head of the Phong Nha Nature Reserve, as an affirmation of the resilient vitality of nature here. Hidden in the heart of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, the valley covers only 2,000 hectares, yet holds a rich and mysterious ecosystem. Towering limestone mountains, endless stretches of grasslands, deep green primeval forests... all blend together to create a space that is both majestic and romantic. Locals still call this place by a more familiar name: Thung Tre (Bamboo Valley), because on the mountain slopes, dense thickets of bamboo and ivory bamboo grow, forming lush green walls that embrace the entire valley in peace and tranquility.

This is a kingdom of birds, where species that seem to exist only in books, such as the Edwards's pheasant, rufous-necked hornbill, and great hornbill, still sing daily amid the vast forest. On any ordinary day, you can spot flocks of birds soaring across the sky, the sound of their wings blending with the rustle of streaming water and forest wind, creating a wild symphony found nowhere else.

2. A journey of conquest – travel to see, step to feel

There is no easy path to reach Survival Valley. From the Western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, visitors must trek over 5 km of forest trails, negotiate gentle slopes, and traverse vast fields of cogon grass to reach the ancient Dau Rai tree forest. This is a rare tree population discovered by scientists in 2008, featuring giant trunks that take three or four people to span around, with canopies rising dozens of meters high, covering the sky.

To venture deeper into the valley, visitors cross Cong Troi (Heaven's Gate) and wade across Suoi Tien (Fairy Stream), where crystal-clear water trickles through mossy boulders. The final step before reaching the heart of the valley is Hang Nuoc Lan (Diving Water Cave), the back door of Dark Cave. There are no paved stone paths or shimmering lights here—only the breath of the forest, the gurgling sound of running water, and pure tranquility.

3. Thuy Cung Cave - One of the hottest spots in Survival Valley

Right in the middle of the valley is Thuy Cung Cave, a hidden gem with mysterious emerald-blue water. While Hang Nuoc Lan features jagged rocks and swift currents carrying the powerful breath of the mountains and forests, Thuy Cung Cave is gentler and more peaceful. Beneath the cool water lies a unique aquatic ecosystem, home to transparent fish and shrimp living in the quiet of a million-year-old cave.

Bathing in the waters of Thuy Cung Cave, you will feel a strange connection with nature. This is not merely a destination, but a place to let go of all the noise and immerse yourself in the purity of heaven and earth.

4. No shops, only pristine nature

Unlike Phong Nha Cave or Paradise Cave, there are no footprints of shops or bustling stalls here. With no luxurious meals or tables covered in crisp white tablecloths, lunch in Survival Valley consists simply of rice balls, wild vegetables, and grilled fish, enjoyed right by the stream amidst a setting where only plants and birds keep you company. To some, it might just be a humble meal, but for those who have set foot here, it is the taste of freedom, of returning to life's most pristine essence.

In summer, after each downpour, the valley seems to put on a new cloak as a paradise of wild mushrooms emerges—especially termite mushrooms, a delicious and nutritious specialty. This is a gift that nature bestows upon those who are patient and love nature enough to reach this place.
