Surfing is the "king" of beach sports at My Khe, especially suitable for beginners. Waves here are usually small to medium (0.5-1.5 m), not as intense as Bali or Hawaii, but enough to give you an adrenaline rush when riding the waves. The ideal season is from September to March (high wave season), while April to August has calmer waves, making it very safe for newbies.
You can rent beginner-friendly softboards right at the beach or sign up for a 1-2 hour lesson with an instructor (usually local Vietnamese or foreign). Reputable rental spots are concentrated along Vo Nguyen Giap Street (near the 51 Vo Nguyen Giap area). After surfing, you can also enjoy free freshwater showers at select locations.
Pro tip: Choose early morning hours (6:00 - 9:00 AM) to avoid harsh sunlight and get stable waves. Always wear a life jacket and listen to safety instructions.
Currently, centers such as Da Nang Surf School (near Furama Resort) or Vietnam Surfing offer high-quality board rentals, leashes, and anti-slip wax, along with dedicated instructor guidance.
