Why is Dong Hoi an attractive destination that tourists shouldn't miss when visiting Quang Binh?

Dong Hoi – a coastal city located at the mouth of the Nhat Le River, was once a bustling fishing port in history, witnessing many ups and downs of time. War once devastated this place, especially in 1965, when American B-52 bombing raids almost leveled the entire city. But then, from the ruins, Dong Hoi rose strongly, reviving with a new look, both modern and retaining the deep traits of the past.  

Today, Dong Hoi is gradually becoming a promising tourist destination. Pristine yet charming beaches, historical sites carrying the marks of time, and a rich, deeply Central-style cuisine—all create the unique appeal of this city. Once an important fortress of the Nguyen Lords during the Trinh - Nguyen civil conflict (1558 - 1775), Dong Hoi later continued to suffer severe air strikes during the Vietnam War, especially in 1965, when the city was nearly leveled.  

Yet despite being devastated, Dong Hoi still preserves traces of a golden era and memories that cannot be erased. 

- Dong Hoi Citadel, built in 1812, although only two stone and brick gates remain, stands as clear evidence of Nguyen Dynasty military architecture.  

- Tam Toa Church, built in 1886 in the Portuguese style, although only the bell tower remains after the war, still stands tall as a symbol of resilience.
