Established in 1470 under the reign of King Le Thanh Tong, the village was originally named Phuc Giang, with the wish that a land near the water would bring much fortune and blessings. 

By the Tay Son period, the village was renamed Hoang Giang to remember the merits of the founding family line. Finally, under the Gia Long reign, the village was officially named Phuoc Tich, as a prayer of the villagers to accumulate blessings and virtue for future generations. The unique straw-firing technique created signature ceramic products, which were once offered to the royal court as imperial utensils for the Nguyen dynasty kings. Most famous is the folk verse "Om Phuoc Tich ngon com Hoang de, Sen Ha Tri quy the Phu Xuan" (Phuoc Tich clay pots make rice delicious for the Emperor, Ha Tri lotus is prized in noble Phu Xuan), affirming the reputation of Phuoc Tich pottery in the heart of Hue.
