Sa Mu Pass is located in the northwest of Quang Tri Province, connecting Huong Phung and Huong Viet communes in Huong Hoa district, near the Vietnam–Laos border. From Khe Sanh town, you only need to travel about 35 km along the Ho Chi Minh Highway towards Quang Binh to reach the foot of the pass. Standing at an altitude of nearly 1,400 meters with winding, twisting roads, Sa Mu Pass offers majestic natural scenery blending primeval forests, lush green valleys, and floating ribbons of white clouds.

The name “Sa Mu” originates from the area's climate characteristic, where dense fog covers the landscape year-round, creating a hazy and mystical natural scenery. The average temperature here ranges from 18-22°C, bringing a cool, pleasant atmosphere that is a stark contrast to the typical sweltering heat of Central Vietnam. This contrast has earned Sa Mu the nickname "little Da Lat" of Quang Tri.
Additionally, the Sa Mu Pass area is home to the Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic minorities, who boast rich, unique cultures. Peaceful stilt houses in Chenh Venh village or traditional local festivals offer visitors a wonderful chance for authentic cultural experiences.
