One of the things that makes Bach Ma National Park special is the change of nature according to altitude. The higher you go, the more distinct the landscape and vegetation become, creating a forest green year-round with a rare level of diversity. According to statistics, Bach Ma National Park has about 2,421 plant species, accounting for nearly 17% of the total plant species recorded in Vietnam. From small layers of moss under the forest canopy to ancient trees tens of meters tall, each forest tier contributes to the rich ecosystem of Bach Ma.
Distribution: Tropical evergreen seasonal closed forest (below 1,000m) and subtropical forest (above 1,000m), creating a year-round green canopy.
Species structure:
Fungi: 55 families, 332 species.
Mosses: 27 families, 89 species.
Ferns: 28 families, 182 species.
Gymnosperms & Angiosperms: 1,818 species, including 74 rare species in the Vietnam Red Data Book such as Fokienia hodginsii, Aquilaria crassna, Sindora tonkinensis, and Anoectochilus setaceus.
If you visit the forest during the right season, visitors also have the chance to encounter ancient black cho trees over 30m tall or blooming rhododendron forests around March. Interconnected patches of green, big trees mixed with small ones, climbing vines, and vegetation covering the path create a very characteristic feel of the Bach Ma forest.
It is this richness that not only creates the beauty of Bach Ma National Park but also forms an important habitat for many wild animals, contributing to maintaining a highly valuable natural forest ecosystem in Central Vietnam.
