Van Long Lagoon is located in Gia Van Commune, Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh Province, about 80-90 km (around 2-2.5 hours of travel) from Hanoi. This is the largest wetland natural reserve in the Northern Delta, with an area of about 2,600-3,500 hectares, recognized as an international Ramsar site. This place is not just an ordinary lagoon, but a perfect combination of limestone mountains, cave systems, channels, and aquatic vegetation. Taking a boat trip is the best way to explore because:
- “Waveless bay” landscape: The boat glides smoothly on the calm water surface, reflecting mountains to create a vivid landscape painting.
- Rich ecosystem: Observe Delacour's langurs, flocks of storks and herons soaring, fish swimming in the clear water, and characteristic plant species.
- Cultural experience: Local boat rowers often share stories about the history and culture of Ninh Binh, bringing an intimate and authentic feel.
- Stunning check-in spots: Numerous photo-worthy corners with limestone peaks, lotus ponds (in summer), shimmering sunsets, or peaceful sunrises.
This is an ideal destination for couples, families, or groups of friends who love nature and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist spots like Trang An or Tam Coc.
