Kim Son wine originates from Kim Son district, a coastal land in Ninh Binh province. The traditional wine-brewing craft village here has existed for hundreds of years, closely associated with the history of land reclamation from the sea. According to historical documents, in 1829 (during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang), Doanh Dien Su (reclamation minister) Nguyen Cong Tru recruited laborers from Nam Dinh and surrounding areas to reclaim the desolate land, turning it into a "golden mountain" (Kim Son). Along with handicraft sedge weaving, wine brewing became an important livelihood for local residents.

Kim Son wine is not merely a beverage but also carries cultural value, mentioned in folk verses like "Good wine requires good friends" or legends about the "sacred" deep well water found only in Lai Thanh. Today, Kim Son Ninh Binh wine has been recognized as an OCOP product (One Commune One Product program) and is a renowned specialty throughout Vietnam, even exported to several countries.
