Quang Binh Winter Spring - A Unique Travel Photobook of Quang Binh in Winter & Spring

"Quang Binh Winter-Spring" is not just a book, but also a journey of discovering the quiet yet captivating beauty of Quang Binh during winter and spring. This project takes the form of a travel lookbook, marking the collaboration between the Quang Binh Tourism Club and photographers. Beyond beautiful photos, Quang Binh Winter-Spring conveys a greater desire: to change the perspective on low-season tourism.  

This is perhaps the first publication dedicated specifically to Quang Binh's winter-spring season, featuring a fresh approach to tourism—a Quang Binh not only tied to summer sun or vibrant trips, but also charming even on misty days when the landscape dons its new seasonal cloak. The book casts aside the image of a Quang Binh dominated by storms and floods or poverty, replacing it with a romantic, culturally rich land ready to welcome nature lovers and those who enjoy unique experiences.

The project launched in February 2023, starting with 4 days of preparation and lasting through 21 days and 21 nights traveling across Quang Binh to capture the most authentic images. Every step traversed Phong Nha Cave, Hoanh Son Quan, Vung Chua - Yen Island, Dong Hoi, down to the southern districts of Quang Binh, where the Bru - Van Kieu culture still holds the soul of the mountain realm. Under the guidance of creative director Tran Manh Hiep, the project featured dedicated artists such as Photographers Nguyen Hai and Nguyen Huu Thong, offering a deep yet fresh perspective on this land.  

Not stopping at landscapes, Quang Binh Winter-Spring is also a symphony of emotions, where nature, space, and history blend together in every frame. Released in mid-November 2024, the book is the result of a collaboration between Read Station, Libero Institute, and the Transport Publishing House. More than a lookbook, this is a journey of listening with all senses, feeling every emotion to convey through every photo and line of text—rustic, genuine, yet deeply poetic.

The book is divided into four chapters, like a journey guiding readers through different perspectives of Quang Binh:  

• Chapter 1: Conquering Nature

"Conquering Nature" takes readers to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, home to magnificent caves, then gradually calms emotions with gentle reflections on daily pressures.

• Chapter 2: Quiet Space 

Quiet Space helps readers calm their minds, especially from Hoanh Son Quan looking towards Vung Chua - Yen Island, a place lingering with rivers, mountains, and villages. After recharging their energy, visitors are ready for a new journey.

• Chapter 3: Discovering Novelty

Dong Hoi – the sunrise city, youthful beside the Nhat Le River, blending modernity with cultural and historical values, dynamically facing the East Sea.

• Chapter 4: The End of the Journey 

The two southern districts of the province are lands of sacred places and extraordinary people, the birthplace of outstanding figures such as Nguyen Huu Canh and Vo Nguyen Giap, with many scenic spots and historical sites like Than Dinh Mountain, Hoang Phuc Pagoda, the boat racing festival on the Kien Giang and Nhat Le rivers, and the traditional homes of the Bru – Van Kieu people. 

Not only recording scenic spots or cultural-historical relics, Quang Binh Winter-Spring also "touches" readers' hearts through emotional photos that clearly portray the unique characteristics of the local people. The book acts as an urge for Quang Binh to no longer live fully only during the summer months and then hibernate as before. The truth is that Quang Binh tourism is changing day by day, as seen through rainy season exploration tours, poor villages like Tan Hoa starting to do tourism even during the flood season, or cliffside villages like Ban Coi Da also finding ways to pave a new path for a new life through sustainable tourism.

More than just a photobook, Quang Binh Winter-Spring has created significant changes in perceptions of low-season tourism in Quang Binh.  

In addition to impressive achievements such as being a monthly best-seller at Read Station, or being purchased in large quantities by hotels, libraries, and schools, the book has gone even further. A veteran bought 5 copies, while people living far from home ordered hundreds of copies to bring the breath of their homeland to foreign lands. The poetic image of the Bao Ninh coastal road in the winter-spring season went viral on social media, attracting over 14,000 shares on CafeF in a single day, and the keyword "winter spring season" quickly entered the top 3 search results on Google.  

Not stopping at numbers, the book has become a source of inspiration for Quang Binh travel tours, contributing to changing the perception of Quang Binh as a four-season destination. No longer a land that is only vibrant in summer, winter-spring Quang Binh dons a romantic, peaceful look with chilly weather, special cultural activities, misty rainy days, and spring blossoms bursting open amid the mountains. This is not only a journey to discover natural scenery, but also an opportunity to understand how locals live in harmony with nature, to fully feel the peace in quiet yet strangely charming winter-spring days.
