Located just about 10 km from Da Nang city center, Son Tra Peninsula is considered a natural masterpiece in the heart of the coastal city, where the majestic beauty of mountains and forests meets the vastness of the ocean. Spanning over 4,000 hectares of primeval forest, facing the sea on three sides, and standing at an average altitude of 500–700 m above sea level, Son Tra is known as the "green crown" of Da Nang, a valuable ecological lungs that brings fresh air to the entire city.

Not only famous for Linh Ung Pagoda, Da But Beach, or the legendary Hai Van Pass road, this place is also known as the premier paragliding site in Central Vietnam, attracting numerous domestic and international tourists. Paragliding activities at Son Tra are organized by the Danang Paragliding Club (DPC), a pioneer in the field of adventure sports in Vietnam.

Established in the early 2010s, Son Tra paragliding quickly became a symbol of experiential tourism in Da Nang thanks to its ideal flying terrain: stable wind direction, wide panoramic views of the city, ocean, and mountains, alongside a safe landing zone on Man Thai Beach. Unlike solo skydiving, paragliding in Son Tra is a tandem flight with a professional pilot, allowing even beginners to safely enjoy the feeling of soaring through the blue sky.

Health and Clothing Requirements

• Health condition: Participants should not suffer from cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, or severe fear of heights. A health check before registration is recommended.
• Recommended attire:
  • Comfortable long pants and long-sleeved shirts that allow easy movement.
  • Soft-soled sports shoes with good grip.
  • Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and personal drinking water.

Process of Participation

• Step 1 – Registration & Transfer (30–45 minutes): Tourists gather at 31 Hoang Sa, Tho Quang, Son Tra, or at central Da Nang hotels (free shuttle service available). From here, a specialized vehicle will take you up to the takeoff area on top of Son Tra Mountain.
• Step 2 – Briefing & Preparation (10–15 minutes): Internationally certified pilots directly instruct the flight procedure, check wind conditions, and inspect paragliding equipment to meet safety standards.
• Step 3 – Takeoff & Flight (10–15 minutes): Once ready, you will take a gentle run down the hillside and start a spectacular wind-gliding flight, taking in the full view of Da Nang's sea and sky. The journey ends with a smooth landing on Man Thai Beach.
• Step 4 – Completion & Memories: After landing, you will receive a video recording your entire flight recorded with a GoPro camera, ready to share immediately on social media.

Total experience time: Around 2–3 hours, depending on weather conditions and wind speed at the time of flight.

Weather is the most important factor determining the quality and safety of the flight. For the best experience, you should choose a suitable time as follows:

Ideal Time for Flying

• Dry season (March – September): Clear skies, beautiful sunshine, stable wind from 5 – 15 km/h, temperature ranging between 25 – 30°C, very favorable for paragliding activities.
• Golden hours:
  • Morning (6:00 – 9:00): Long visibility, fresh air, gentle light, suitable for filming and taking photos.
  • Afternoon (15:30): Ideal for watching the sunset over the East Sea, a moment loved by many tourists.
  • Note: Avoid flying after 16:30, when sea winds start to get strong and swirling, which may affect stability.

Safety Tips You Should Know

• Monitor the weather: Check wind and cloud forecasts on apps like Windy or AccuWeather 24 hours in advance.
• Choose a reputable provider: Prioritize booking tours with the Danang Paragliding Club (DPC). 
• Follow instructions: Always remain calm, listen to the pilot's instructions, and do not attempt to control or change flight positions on your own.
• Cancellation policy: If weather conditions are not secured, the tour will be 100% refunded or flexibly rescheduled.

As of July 2025, paragliding activities on the Son Tra Peninsula (Da Nang) have been temporarily suspended under the directive of the Da Nang city government. This decision was made to review the entire organizational process, safety standards, and licensing for operators in the area. The temporary suspension is a necessary measure to ensure absolute safety for visitors and operators. Operations will resume after inspection work is completed and new official announcements are issued by the relevant authorities.
