Thanh tra is a precious pomelo variety with a slender pear-like shape, much smaller than other pomelos, weighing only around 0.7 - 1 kg. When ripe, its peel turns a sunny yellow, the pulp segments are translucent yellow, juicy, and especially possess a mild, delicate fragrance matched by no other fruit.
This fruit has been attached to the ancient capital for centuries, with the most famous being the thanh tra of Thuy Bieu region. Situated along the Perfume River, Thuy Bieu receives annual fertile silt deposits from floodwaters, creating a uniquely rich soil. Combined with the interplay of harsh weather—from droughts and typhoons to prolonged rains—this environment produces a fruit with an incomparably mild, sweet taste.

In ancient times, Thuy Bieu thanh tra was one of the top delicacies favored by the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty and carefully selected to be presented to the royal court. The solemn "Royal Thanh Tra Presentation" ritual held at Ngo Mon Gate in the past is still reenacted today during the annual Hue Thanh Tra Festival in September, representing a unique cultural touch to honor and promote this precious specialty.
