Detailed itinerary
Sovaba Travel's car and tour guide pick up guests in Dong Hoi. Depart for Khe Sanh – a breezy plateau located on the legendary Ho Chi Minh Highway. Along the way, the group hears an overview of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and heroic historical stories of Quang Tri land.
Arrive at Khe Sanh coffee farm to begin the "farm to cup" experience journey:
Coffee Picking – The First Step of the Flavor Journey
The farm guide introduces the process of growing, caring for, and cultivating coffee in the red basalt soil of Khe Sanh.
Guests directly pick ripe coffee cherries — learning how to identify standard cherries: plump, ripe red, unbruised, pest-free, avoiding green cherries.
Experience initial sorting right at the farm – the first step to ensuring the highest quality coffee beans.
Processing and Selection
Visit the post-harvest processing area and learn about the stages:
- Second sorting to remove pest-damaged, undeveloped cherries, or substandard beans.
- Introduction to 3 basic processing methods:
- Natural (sun-drying whole cherries)
- Washed (washing and fermentation)
- Honey (retaining the outer sticky mucilage layer)
Observe the fermentation, pulping, and drying processes – crucial stages that determine the final flavor.
Roast – Grind – Enjoy
Learn about roast levels (light, medium, dark) and how temperature and time affect flavor profiles.
Experience hand-grinding and brewing coffee on-site, learning to appreciate the aroma, taste, and aftertaste of each bean variety.
Enjoy a cup of pure Khe Sanh coffee while taking in views of lush green hills, feeling the harmony between nature and humanity.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Khe Sanh town, savoring border region specialties.
Visit Ta Con Airfield, part of the legendary Khe Sanh Combat Base cluster.
Listen to commentary on the 1968 Battle of Khe Sanh, admire C-130 aircraft, bunkers, and the runway still bearing marks of war.
Feel the contrast between a fierce wartime past and the peaceful present of this border land.
On the way back, stop to visit Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, which marks the fierce 81 days and nights of the red-hot summer of 1972.
Offer incense in tribute and listen to moving historical stories of the sacrifices made by past generations.
Transfer guests back to Dong Hoi or continue to Hue (depending on guests' choice).
